The Golden Sword The Camelot Inheritance ~ Book 1 A mystery adventure book for children and teens aged 9 14 edition by Rosie Morgan Children eBooks
I always enjoy a tale that has anything to do with King Arthur, and this one was no exception. The beginning reminded me a bit about the first book of Harry Potter, but the rest of the story is its own unique tale. I think the fact that it is set in modern times will appeal more to today's MG/YA groups, who may not understand much of the Arthurian times. The book is well-written with well-developed characters, even down to the animals. There are a lot of lovely descriptions and it was easy to find myself swept away with the excitement and adventure these young people were going through. The glimmers into other dimensions was well done and easy to understand. This will definitely be a book the young and old alike will enjoy reading.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I loved the chapter images. They are beautiful and intricate.

The Golden Sword The Camelot Inheritance ~ Book 1 A mystery adventure book for children and teens aged 9 14 edition by Rosie Morgan Children eBooks Reviews
This book is a good mystery bringing the past into the present. King Arthur still fights evil through a young modern-day Arthur. Mystery, suspense, sense of place (Cornwall), and magic work together to weave a good tale all ages will enjoy.
Bought this a present for a friend’s daughter, and ended up reading most of it myself! Good characterization, & a plot line that keeps moving. Written to be accessible even to kids younger than the recommended age range. Most enjoyable!
This is another great allegory. I love all things Arthurian and this one was no exception. It defiantly doesn't fit the mold of the usual Kink Arthur legends. The young man (no age is given, but I am assuming high school age) and two of his friends in modern Cornwall, face up against an old evil, with the help of some strange characters. A good read and I am looking forward to the next book. I recommend for ages pre-teen and up. I give "The Golden Sword" 4 stars.
A teen book that draws you in and is well paced. It keeps up the suspence by introducing more mysterious characters. It could have given more emphasis on building the characters and their friendship. Where it lacks is the conclusion. It is not clear what the conflict is about. The end is too rapid and somewhat anticlimatc with no clear idea about what will happen in the future.
I really enjoyed this book. The kids were easy to relate to, and just how you'd expect kids to be.
It was easy to feel Arthur's frustrations when everyone around you knows what's going on and answer your questions with lines like, "You'll find out when the time is right." The only person who doesn't know is the one person who should know.
The supernatural characters had that air of mystery about them. I was particularly taken with the Watchers and Writer.
Even if kids don't know the legend of Arthur. this story should keep them interested. There is plenty of room for development for the series. It will be a fun journey to see where it goes.
I wondered what the title had to do with the story until the end of the book and I am still wondering. Is this Arthur a reincarnation of King Arthur or is he someone completely different. It was hard to tell. One thing that does need more work is having all of Arthur's and the readers questions answered. Just who is he and what is his purpose in Cornwall. King Arthur may have been born int Tintengel, but he lived or may lived near Glastonbury (Avalon) according to legend which is where Camelot was supposedly located. If the Arthur in the story is King Arthur, just who are Nick and Tamara supposed to be? And what about Arthur's parents. Weren't both Igraine and Uther dead by the time Arthur becomes King at age 15, and just how old is this Arthur supposed to be 11-12 something like that. I do no know what parents are like in Brittan, but having a pair of 11 year old twins I will not let them just go off on their own, without knowing where, with who, and when they will be coming back. I also expect that they are accompanied by a responsible adult or older sibling. There are too many dangers in this world to let young people just wonder off by themselves. I do like that fact that both of my sons enjoyed this story and want to know when the next installment is coming out. I do like the fact that there is no sex, bad language or violence in this story All too many times books these days have all of that for kids of a very impressionable age. I try to make sure that my sons don't get hold of it, but it is not easy and I for one am greatfull to the author for writing this story. Even I want to know when the next installment comes out. GOOD READ ALL AROUND.
Arthur Penhaligon didn't know why a strange "Crow Man" was following him and his friends around. Or why that man would break into Arthur's house just to change Arthur's screen saver for his computer. Or why storms keep happening whenever the Crow Man is around - it's the middle of August and HAIL is coming down! And there is also the small matter of a big army of cats protecting the group of friends. Something strange is going on... Arthur finds himself being captured by unknown enemies and caught up in a battle between good and evil.
Don't think this is another King Arthur story because of the name. This one is very different! I love the action in this book, and the plot was great. The characters were very good and likeable. There were a couple of instances when characters appear in the story and were not introduced to the reader right away that I found a bit confusing (like when Tamar first appeared). The book was a quick read and very appropriate for any age. The ending left me wanting more! I will be looking for the second book in the series to come out. I think the cover is good, but I wish it showed a golden sword!
